Converting Business Model from Unorganised Sector to Organised

Many businesses are operating under unorganised sectors
like making of kites, Incents and many such items. This
sector utilises the under privileged / disadvantage citizens
squeezing their abilities / labour and gaining healthy returns
for themselves, living a little for these laborers.

If efforts are been put in to convert this sector of businesses
in organised form and provided the better returns to this
beneficiaries and taxes to the govt.

Vikas Trust drives such initiatives in India. Pl visit
www.vikastrust.org to know more on the subject or write to
us to join us on this effort and help the under privileged to
generate income for themselves and add growth to the
nation with handsome returns to all stake holders. Lets join
hands to eradicate poverty.

Financial inclusion in its true sense is about knowledge and empowerment leading to ‘vikas’ or progress. Harjot Kaur writes about how Vadodara-based Zoher Doctor is changing lives of the underprivileged

That Vikas Trust would have been set up by a financial planner is clear from its very objective—not merely to make people self-sufficient through livelihoods, but to empower through every tool of financial planning available to the more educated and privileged people—access to credit, a savings plan, insurance, access to medical benefits and guidance in finding markets for products. Vadodara-based Zoher Doctor, a financial planner for over a decade, he decided that the best way to give back to society would be to provide ‘real upliftment’ to the underprivileged through a ‘self-sustainable plan’.

And, in two years since 2010, his effort is attracting support from a cross-section of people and donors. The concept is deceptively simple—Vikas Trust provides financial and social resources to those who want to transform their lives. It provides self-employment through gruh udyog (home-based industry), upliftment through microfinance, medical aid and specific help for women and children. Gruh Udyog offers products like candles, pickles, bags, handicraft items and artificial jewellery. Vikas Trust helps to source raw material at competitive prices and help in marketing the final product through the internet and a display-cum-sales centre (inaugurated on 4th September).

For starters, Vikas Trust provides interest-free loans to avoid a debt-trap. Field workers visit localities of the underprivileged, talk to local leaders, meet families and assess credit needs as well as willingness to become self-empowered. Zoher Doctor says, “I need to understand the mindset of these people to help them come out of the vicious circle of poverty. If I want to help them, I need to know what work they would be interested in doing. Then I talk to government agencies and other NGOs, to generate financial and intellectual resources for them.”

The original loan has to be repaid to recycle money for others’ benefit. People are also taught about savings, investment and insurance to make them financially independent. The recovery rate so far has been 100%.

Since the concept was new, the founders made an initial contribution of their own funds; they also had a tough time convincing potential beneficiaries to understand their concept of empowerment. Shaiyar and Sahaj, two Vadodara-based NGOs, helped Vikas Trust in its outreach effort. Changing the mindset of people, used to government subsidies or doles from NGOs and religious trusts, was a challenge, says Zoher Doctor. But now that it has proven the concept, donations are flowing in from individuals, corporates and other well-wishers.

Another innovation of Vikas Trust is the ‘Medicard’ provided free of cost to beneficiaries. The card has been structured with the support of like-minded doctors and hospitals; it entitles a person to a significant discount in treatment. The Trust is also working on preventive healthcare. For instance, Wockhardt has supported a free eye-check-up initiative.

Other activities of Vikas Trust include, distribution of medicines and vitamin supplements under medical advice as well as clothes and foodgrains to the needy and counselling for education and family problems. Vikas Trust also support NGOs who runs a free library at its office premises for poor children. Mr Doctor plans to take the Trust’s activities forward by adding businesses such as garment-manufacturing, jewellery-making, developing parks, distribution of foodgrains to disabled singles and a building a call centre.

If you want to extend financial or social support to Vikas Trust, contact the members at the address given alongside.

Social Service – Need of the hour

Social Service – Need of the hour

India has witness a huge inflow of funds through charity organisation / NGOs, to support the poor. The results are also in front of us. Not to blame anyone the fruitful results are not seen in reality.
  • ·         May be the Govt. policies
  • ·         Corruption
  • ·         Mindset of citizens
  • ·         Many other known / unknown.

Our study has highlighted that the charity has helped in some areas of community development but for real upliftment or to eradicate poverty an aggressive livelihood program is to be implemented and managed, along with the process to change the mindset of the under privileged citizens (we say under privileged because we believe they have still not got the privilege of utilising their strength). Many a time it is felt that providing them with little facilities or services, satisfy them and we kill the inner strength in these people, to do better.
Putting this study we at Vikas Trust came with an objective to uplift the under privileged through income generation and self sustaining model through self employment and Gruh Udhyog. Providing with just opportunities will not work, beneficiaries are counsel for psychological change in them, changing their mind set and those who accept the change then VIKAS TRUST provide all the assistance through the experts in field of business planning, financial assistance, negotiation with vendors, banks, suppliers etc. Also enrolling in govt. schemes and others to get subsidiary.
Credit counseling is also done to analyse the risk and explain them about the fund flow. Habit of saving, investments, protection is also incorporated to make them financial stable for the future.

Some of the projects Vikas Trust supports are
  • ·         Providing Ownership of Auto rickshaw to driver who are on rental
  • ·         Making of quality eatables
  • ·         Making of Paper Bags, Candles, Artificial Jewellery, etc
  • ·         Stitching of Cloths
  • ·         Dial 4 Service

Pilot projects was carried out, to gain experience and understand the integrity and study the results. With good results in hand, now the same is done in bigger scale.
Skills available with these beneficiaries were utilised by businessmen / enterpruners to yield good returns for themselves and these under privileged are left with peanuts. Now it’s the time to utised their skill for themselves and lets share the rich profits.

The model required for the real upliftment will work on this critea
A group will be formed under Co-operative Society Act.  The members of this Society are the beneficiaries. Society is by them for themselves.
Vikas Trust will support in providing all resources to the society till they are stabilised themselves for smooth working. (Say by 3 to 5 years).

Resources provided by Vikas Trust would be in terms of
Fine Tuning the Skills,
Arranging for finance
Sourceing the raw materials,
Set right the manufacturing procedures & systems
Getting the required registrations from local authorities
Managing the accounts and records through some beneficiaries
Marketing the final products / Sourcing orders Nationally and Internationally
Guiding them for calculating the best payout and surplus as dividends

Many has joined us & you may, in following ways:
Providing  resources in terms of finance, raw material, expertise, time, etc
Join our project as Investor / Partner and share rich returns
Provide orders
And many other ways you feel appropriate

Lets join hand to change the game....

Ownership of Autorickshaw to the driver who drives on rent

Case Study For Auto Rickshaw Drivers

Name of Beneficiary: Mr Mukesh Soni

Age: 52 Years

Drives Auto on Rent since last 15 Years

Past:
Mr Mukesh Soni is from a middle class family, with education till 10th class. Due to the close down of his earlier company, and not having any education or skills he forced himself to drive an auto rickshaw. Not having any fund, no much support from family and because of his limitation he was not in position to get financial help from bank, he had to drive auto rickshaw on rental basis.

Mukesh bhai is the earning member of the family with some support from his wife Mrs Kokilaben in getting additional income by way of tailoring jobs.

Mukeshbhai drives rental Auto rickshaw, which is made available to him for 8 hours with a daily rent of Rs 100 in those days which has now been increased to Rs 200 per day. Driving auto on Indian roads with huge traffic is troublesome, however he has to manage to earn Rs 500 per day, so as to take home Rs 100 (after taking out the rent of Rs 200 & petrol expenses of Rs 200). If some time the auto is down or under maintenance then he is left with no choice but to stay home without any work & so income. The small earning only make both hand meet with difficulty. Saving is out of question for him.

Present:
With new auto rickshaw in his hand he is now in position to drive it 10 hours with flexibility of time, managing early morning & late night clients for some extra charges (as the availability of auto is less in this hours) earning around Rs 600 plus per day. He takes home Rs 300 per day after doing an expenses of Rs 200 on petrol / CNG and Bank Installment of Rs 100 (bank EMI comes to Rs 3500 pm). Bank installment amount kept aside is weekly deposited in the saving account, so as avoid its use and not to miss on the EMI. Due to new vehicle the breakdown is nil so he utilizes all week days on work.
Mukeshbhai is now confident of saving for his future too. He know once the EMI is done he will take home Rs 400 per day and increase his contribution to more on saving and enjoy better standard of life.

VIKAS TRUST ROLE:
Identifying Mukeshbhai’s need from our general survey on auto rickshaw drivers, we approached with our proposal of supporting him to buy a rickshaw. His creditability, behavior and drive to work for his family betterment gave a positive strong signal to support him. With a small amount contribution from him and balanced by Trust the down payment was made for auto rickshaw. The required documents were processed through DIC (District Industrial Centre) a Govt. body who support self employment by way of subsidy and convinced (it was not easy) the bank  to provide loan to Mukeshbhai.

APPEAL
Many such individuals has been identified like Mukeshbhai who does hard work but is not in position to support his family with good standard of life. We at Vikas Trust wish to support and provide helping hand to such citizens and provide them with opportunity to come up in life and prove their worth. This is only possible with the support of our DONOR. We request you to support us with your contribution / donation

Free Food at Religious Places

Hunger - The worst experience ever.

and food provided to the hungry person is the best form of blessing, ever.

But have we not seen people, the way they provide such a precious item in very unorganised and cruel way. Make people fight and jump for the same as beast. Is the way right?

Do you consume food in the similar manner?

Treating your brother or sister in such a way and that too in front of your own GOD...
Do you feel the GOD, feels good about it...
Why the so call Spiritual Advisors have not objected on it..
Why our inner voice has not stopped us??!!

Lets do it in more organised way and let our brother & sister have the precious food in same dignity as we have it. Lets give them life saver food in more systematic, organised and respected way. Giving away food in any other way is insult to the food itself and you will agree, it do no good to any one. Neither to the giver or the taker.

Lets respect the LIFE SAVER FOOD and offer it to our beloved brothers & sisters in more dignifying way... Lets take a oath & also make others aware of the SIN which we do un knowingly...

Lets bring the right knowledge of doing things in right way...

If you agree, then do leave your comments and your views

Here our intention is not to hurt anyone's feelings...This is to bring in right way of practice
